Incheon City Council and Inha University Collaborate to Establish Forward Base for Inter-Korean Exchange Preparation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Incheon Metropolitan Council's Special Committee for the Development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone announced on the 20th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint cooperation with Inha University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation to establish an advanced base for inter-Korean peace cooperation and exchange through the "Development of Mineral Resources and Energy in the West Sea Economic Belt."
Through this agreement, both organizations will mutually cooperate in ▲ development of mineral resources and energy in North Korea's West Sea area ▲ preparation of eco-friendly measures leading the Green New Deal ▲ research on resource development on the Korean Peninsula and platform establishment ▲ and other related fields to drive the development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone.
Cho Gwang-hwi, Chairman of the Special Committee for the Development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone, stated, "Through the signing of this joint cooperation MOU, we will foster Incheon International Airport as a hub for inter-Korean exchange in preparation for revitalizing inter-Korean relations, and present preliminary strategies for North Korea-related projects promoted by Incheon City." He added, "In the difficult economic situation caused by COVID-19, we plan to accelerate the development of the Incheon International Airport Economic Zone to contribute to regional economic growth."
Yoo Chang-kyung, Director of Inha University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, said, "Incheon City has the potential to grow into a hub city in the West Sea area for future economic cooperation with North Korea, based on its geographical proximity to North Korea and its logistics infrastructure including ports and land routes." He added, "The need for active efforts and research in preparation for inter-Korean economic cooperation is increasing."

The Special Committee for the Development of the Incheon Airport Economic Zone was established and operates with the purpose of creating the Incheon Airport Economic Zone and promoting regional economic development through the advancement of core Korean industries related to the aviation industry centered on Incheon International Airport, including advanced aviation industry, aircraft maintenance (MRO), air logistics, and future aviation industries since September last year.
