Song Young-gil: "Acquisition of Ssangyong Motor to Become a Foundation for Autonomous Electric Vehicle Market Leadership"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, visited the factory of an electric vehicle company participating in the Ssangyong Motor acquisition battle and wished for an 'autonomous' foundation.
On the 19th, Song attended the completion ceremony of Edison Motors' Gunsan factory and stated, "We do not know who will acquire Ssangyong Motor in the future, but I hope that Ssangyong Motor will not be entrusted to Mahindra India or the Chinese, but that we will autonomously lead the electric vehicle market."
Edison Motors, a manufacturer of electric buses and trucks, is participating in the Ssangyong Motor acquisition battle as part of a consortium with private equity funds.
Song said, "When Daewoo Motors in Gunsan closed down, everyone was devastated," adding, "It was like the feeling when a forest fire burns all the cherished trees; in that devastation, new sprouts and new trees were planted."
