[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dong-jin Lee) has submitted a supplementary budget proposal totaling 51.2 billion KRW to the district council to overcome COVID-19 and revitalize the local economy.
The funding for this supplementary budget was secured through adjustments in expenditures for underperforming projects such as the net surplus from the 2020 settlement, increases in local taxes and non-tax revenues, national and city subsidies, festival and event expenses, and domestic and international travel expenses.
The main directions for the 2021 Dobong-gu 2nd supplementary budget are ▲ prevention of COVID-19 spread and support for vulnerable groups ▲ revitalization of the local economy ▲ expansion of urban infrastructure for sustainable growth.
A total of 10.4 billion KRW has been allocated to prevent COVID-19 spread and support vulnerable groups. This includes the district’s share of the government’s 2nd supplementary budget for the rapid payment of the COVID-19 coexistence national support fund, support for living expenses for those in quarantine, and school disinfection personnel support projects.
To create public jobs and revitalize the local economy, a total of 870 million KRW has been reflected. This is for operating public work programs, creating jobs for seniors, issuing local currency, supporting small clothing manufacturers, and supporting the Dobong-type private-led delivery app.
For the expansion of urban infrastructure for education, culture, sports, and resident safety, 28.7 billion KRW has been allocated. First, a total of 10.4 billion KRW will be invested in education, culture, and sports infrastructure such as the construction of the Ssangmun-dong multipurpose sports center, the Banghak 3-dong district Hanok library, and the establishment of the Dobong-type elementary after-school support center. For expanding resident safety facilities, including urban park maintenance, installation of lighting on the Jungnangcheon walking trail, maintenance of road and river facilities, and installation of security CCTV, a total of 18.3 billion KRW will be invested.
In addition, the district has allocated 1.8 billion KRW for renovation of local libraries, community centers, and senior welfare facilities currently closed due to COVID-19, as well as maintenance of outdoor sports facilities, preparing for safer and more comfortable reopening.
Mayor Dong-jin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “We have focused the budget on strengthening quarantine measures due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, revitalizing the local economy, and expanding urban infrastructure. Once the budget is approved, we will strive to alleviate residents’ difficulties as much as possible through prompt execution.”
