20s Officer Dies of Cardiac Arrest During '7m Deep Water' Escape Training
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] A naval officer died during submarine crew rescue training, prompting a military investigation.
According to the Navy on the 18th, A (26, junior officer) experienced cardiac arrest around 4:20 p.m. on the 17th while surfacing during underwater escape training at a naval base in Jinhae-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam Province.
A received CPR on site and was transported to a civilian hospital but passed away.
At the time of the accident, A was undergoing escape training from a diving bell located at a depth of 7 meters.
It was confirmed that a total of five safety personnel, including two military doctors, were stationed at the underwater escape training site during the exercise.
The training was part of a six-month basic duty education course for submarine crew members.
