100 Years of School History, Sangju's 'Nuegochi History' ... Sangju Public Agricultural Sericulture School Special Exhibition
Reevaluating Sericulture Artisans in Sangju, Gyeongbuk, from August 18 to Late February Next Year
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Do you know about the 100-year-old agricultural school in Sangju, Gyeongbuk?
The Sangju Museum held the opening ceremony of the special exhibition for the second half of the year, "農蠶: 100 Years of Sangju Public Agricultural Sericulture School," on the 17th. The exhibition runs from the 18th until February 27 of next year.
The history of Sangju Public Agricultural Sericulture School, which opened in 1921, has reached 100 years. Along with the 100 years the school has experienced, the local industry and society have also changed.
Sangju City and the museum prepared this special exhibition to revisit the history and value of Sangju sericulture through their engagement with the local community.
The exhibition is structured starting with the prologue "Planting and Cultivating Mulberry Trees," followed by Part 1 "Beginning, 蠶," Part 2 "Together, 蠶," Part 3 "Continuing, 蠶," and the epilogue "Weaving Silk Clothes."
Sangju Public Agricultural Sericulture School began in 1921 in a single-room classroom at Sangsan-gwan. The school name changed more than ten times. The school building also expanded and relocated from Namseong-dong to Jangdong.
During this process, the exhibition vividly portrays how the agricultural sericulture school was positioned alongside local residents through various materials such as photographs, graduation albums, and interview videos of alumni, showing the school's changes.
Along with the school's appearance, visitors can read about the past and present of Sangju sericulture. Interviews were conducted with people who have inherited knowledge from previous generations, raising silkworms and weaving silk, capturing their vivid stories that have continued for 100 years and reflecting them fully in the exhibition.
