Large Wildfire in Southern France Forces Evacuation of 6,000 People
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] A large wildfire broke out in the Var region of southeastern France, causing thousands of people to evacuate.
According to AP News and BFM Broadcasting on the 17th (local time), the fire that started in Toulon the previous night burned 5,000 hectares (about 50 km²) as of 6 a.m. that day due to strong winds blowing from the Mediterranean Sea, damaging 100 houses.
About 6,000 people, including local residents and those spending their summer vacation at nearby campsites, evacuated due to the fire.
Fire authorities have deployed 900 personnel to suppress the fire.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
