Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated at a regular briefing on the 17th in response to a question about the Taliban's control of Afghanistan, "The United States has frequently pursued policies that provoke wars through military interventions."
She added, "We hope the United States will stop interfering in other countries' internal affairs under the pretext of democracy and human rights and cease actions that destroy peace and stability."
Hua criticized, "The United States waged war in Afghanistan under the name of counterterrorism, but did it win the war?" She continued, "Over the past 20 years, more than 100,000 people have died from U.S. military gunfire, and over 10 million have lost their support systems."
Referring to U.S. President Joe Biden's statement emphasizing that America's mission in Afghanistan was counterterrorism rather than nation-building, she said, "It is true that the U.S. goal was not reconstruction," and criticized, "Wherever U.S. troops go?in Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan?there is destruction. The power and role of the United States is not construction but destruction."
At the same time, she referred to the Taliban as the "new regime of Afghanistan" and, by expressing willingness to support Afghanistan's stability and peace, effectively indicated recognition of the Taliban government.
Hua stated, "The new regime in Afghanistan must clearly distinguish itself from various terrorist groups and strike terrorist organizations such as the East Turkestan Islamic Movement to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a terrorist haven," emphasizing, "China will help Afghanistan achieve lasting peace as soon as possible."
