40s Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Attacking Mother with a Weapon Over Hospital Treatment Advice
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Court (Presiding Judge Oh Kwon-cheol) sentenced Kim Mo (42), who was tried on charges of assaulting his mother with a weapon (attempted matricide), to five years in prison and ordered medical treatment on the 17th.
Kim is accused of repeatedly wielding a weapon at his mother, who was urging him to seek hospital treatment, at their home in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul, on February 11 of this year.
Kim's side claimed that he had been suffering from a mental illness and was in a diminished mental state at the time of the crime due to not taking his medication on time.

The court acknowledged that he had a mental disorder but stated, "The fact that the crime was committed against his mother makes the offense particularly serious," and found all charges brought by the prosecution to be guilty.
