[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The application period for the 2022 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) will begin on the 19th. This year’s CSAT is scheduled for November 18.
The Ministry of Education and the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation announced that from the 19th to September 3, applications for the CSAT will be accepted at 86 regional education support offices and high schools nationwide.
Applications will be accepted daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and public holidays are excluded. While applicants are generally required to submit their applications in person, proxy submissions are allowed for those in self-quarantine or confirmed COVID-19 cases, military personnel, persons with disabilities (only high school graduates), inmates, hospitalized patients, and applicants residing overseas as of the application date.
The application process varies depending on the applicant. Currently enrolled students expecting to graduate will submit their applications collectively through their high schools. High school graduates must apply through their alma mater. If the graduate’s current address (registered resident address) and the location of their high school fall under different regional education support offices, or if they are within the same regional education office but different administrative districts (applicable only to cities and counties within provinces), applications can also be submitted at the regional education support office corresponding to the current address.
Those who have passed the high school equivalency exam or have other recognized academic qualifications may apply at the regional education support office corresponding to their current address (registered resident address). Long-term hospitalized patients, military personnel, inmates, and others with special recognized circumstances may apply at the regional education support office corresponding to their alma mater, current address, or actual residence.
High school graduates from Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and those with registered resident addresses in Jeju who are preparing for the exam outside Jeju will have a separate application site. From September 2 to 3, a dedicated application center will be operated at the Seoul Seongdong-Gwangjin Education Support Office.
The application fee depends on the number of test areas selected: 37,000 KRW for up to 4 areas, 42,000 KRW for 5 areas, and 47,000 KRW for 6 areas. Fees must be paid directly at the application site.
Required documents for application include two passport-sized photos (3.5 cm wide by 4.5 cm high), the application fee, and an ID with a photo for identity verification. Graduates applying at the regional education support office must also prepare one copy each of their graduation certificate and resident registration abstract.
Applicants taking the vocational exploration area must additionally submit a principal’s confirmation verifying completion of at least 86 credits in the industry-demand customized or specialized high school specialized subject II curriculum (for those who graduated before March 1, 2020, the vocational track specialized subject curriculum), or 80 credits for those who graduated before March 1, 2016.
High school equivalency exam passers must prepare a copy of their certificate of passing (original must be presented) or a certificate of passing, and other recognized academic qualification holders must prepare relevant academic recognition documents. Detailed guidance is available by contacting the regional education support office.
Applicants eligible for exam accommodations due to severe or mild visual impairment, brain lesions or motor disabilities, severe or mild hearing impairment, etc., must prepare related supporting documents to receive accommodations. These include copies of disability registration certificates, disability certificates, medical diagnosis issued by a general hospital director, and principal’s confirmation.
Online application submission will be piloted only in Sejong Special Self-Governing City (Goun High School) and Chungcheongnam-do. Eligible applicants include high school graduates and prospective graduates within the jurisdiction of the respective education offices. Graduates (or prospective graduates) of Goun High School, graduates (or prospective graduates) of high schools under Chungnam Office of Education, high school equivalency exam passers with current addresses in Sejong or Chungnam, and graduates of other regional high schools with current addresses in Sejong or Chungnam may participate.
During the application period, applicants who have already submitted their applications may cancel or modify their test areas and subjects by revisiting the application site to request cancellation or changes.
