Gochang-gun's 'Food Security Basic Ordinance' Fully Enforced

[Gochang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeonbuk Gochang-gun (Governor Yu Gisang) announced on the 17th that it will officially implement the ‘Basic Ordinance on Food Security’ to provide safe food to residents and guarantee stable income for local farmers.

The ‘Gochang-gun Basic Ordinance on Food Security’ is based on the principle of supplying high-quality local food to residents without discrimination and continuously developing the food industry.

The governor must establish and implement a local food strategy every five years to guarantee the basic right to food for residents.

In addition, to continuously promote, expand, and develop food policies, a public-private cooperative ‘Food Committee’ will be established and operated to enhance the expertise in policy formulation and evaluation.

Earlier, in April, the county was finally selected for the ‘Food Plan Package Support Project’ announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, securing a total project cost of 11.3 billion KRW for 11 projects.

In June, the first branch of the ‘Local Food Direct Market Support Project’ was opened in Hajon-ri, Simwon-myeon, and it is operating successfully.

Next year, a total of 3.7 billion KRW will be invested in nine projects including ▲education and publicity support ▲safety and quality management ▲establishment of planned production systems ▲building regional networks ▲promotion of food materials and semi-processed product businesses ▲support projects for cold distribution systems, cold facilities, and vehicles.

Governor Yu Gisang said, “With the enforcement of this ordinance, the promotion of the food plan has gained momentum, laying the foundation for all Gochang residents to be guaranteed safe and healthy food. We will do our best to establish food policies that allow residents and farmers to coexist.”
