Gwangju Seo-gu to Conduct 'Community Health Survey' Until the End of October
Use of Basic Data for Establishing Health Project Plans
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 16th that it will conduct a Community Health Survey until October 31.
The survey targets about 900 adults aged 19 and older residing in Seo-gu.
Since 2008, the Community Health Survey, conducted annually by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, selects sample points considering regional characteristics and investigates a total of 160 questions including health behaviors (smoking, drinking, physical activity, nutrition), prevalence and management levels of chronic diseases (hypertension, diabetes, etc.), and quality of life.
The survey method involves trained surveyors wearing identification badges and red T-shirt uniforms visiting sample households directly and conducting one-on-one interviews using laptops.
Seo-gu plans to use the statistical results compiled from this health survey to understand the community’s health status, establish health project plans, and utilize the data as basic materials to systematically evaluate the performance of health projects between regions.
An official from Seo-gu Public Health Center said, “Although the survey is conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have thoroughly prepared to ensure a safe community health survey by having surveyors complete COVID-19 vaccinations, wear masks, and use hand sanitizers,” and added, “We ask residents selected as survey households to actively participate in the survey.”
