4 Additional COVID-19 Cases Confirmed Overnight in Jindo...Increasing Resident Anxiety
County Governor Lee Dong-jin Appeals, "We Will Do Our Best to Respond to COVID-19"
Residents Say, "No Alternatives or Measures, Only General Statements"
[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Four confirmed cases (40th to 43rd) have occurred consecutively over two days in Jindo, Jeonnam, prompting health authorities to be on high alert.
According to the county on the 13th, three residents of Jindo-eup and one resident from another area were newly infected on the 12th and the morning of the 13th.
Two residents (40th and 41st), classified as contacts of the 39th confirmed case in Jindo, tested positive yesterday.
The 42nd confirmed case, a resident from another area, overlapped in movement with the 35th confirmed case in Jindo, received a testing notification via text message, visited the health center, and was confirmed positive around 9 a.m. on the 12th.
Earlier, after the confirmation of Mr. A, the owner of a popular cafe, on the 4th of last month, the Jindo County Health Center conducted COVID-19 tests on about 700 people, including customers who visited the cafe and those who had additional contact with them, until the 4th of this month.
Furthermore, to break the ongoing chain of infections, they requested support from the epidemiological investigation team of Jeollanam-do and are conducting extensive epidemiological investigations, but the cause of the infection remains unknown.
As COVID-19 cases in Jindo County continue unabated daily, the county’s quarantine response system for screening confirmed cases is showing signs of weakness, increasing residents’ anxiety.
In response, Lee Dong-jin, the mayor of Jindo County, issued an appeal on the 12th, stating, “We sincerely apologize for the confusion caused by delays in notifying test results, identifying contact routes, and issuing self-quarantine decisions due to the surge in diagnostic tests for contacts of confirmed cases,” and added, “Jindo County will mobilize all available administrative resources to fully commit to responding to COVID-19.”
