Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, Conducts Safety Inspection at Demolition Site
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the 12th, Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, visited a building demolition site in Guui-dong to conduct a safety inspection.
This safety inspection was initiated following an incident on the 10th where a protective barrier was knocked down due to vibrations caused during waste disposal using heavy machinery.
Although there were no casualties, minor damage occurred to adjacent buildings. The district immediately responded by dismantling the tilted protective barrier and clearing demolition debris to ensure safety.
Mayor Kim emphasized the importance of thoroughly reviewing related regulations during demolition permit and notification processes to avoid any trial and error, under the principle that "safety is the top priority."
He particularly instructed that additional safety measures be taken before demolition work on structurally vulnerable parts such as masonry walls to eliminate risk factors and prevent accidents like the recent one.
Furthermore, Mayor Kim mandated expert inspections to ensure the proper implementation of safety management plans at demolition sites, requiring supervisors to verify measures before construction proceeds, thereby strengthening oversight of supervisors and construction sites.
The district plans to conduct a comprehensive survey of demolition sites within the area to verify safety and take immediate action if any safety concerns arise.
Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, stated, "Natural disasters cannot be prevented by human effort, but man-made disasters caused by structural issues or manual errors can be prevented and reduced. Safety can never be overemphasized, so we will thoroughly assess demolition sites and carefully review measures and future plans to protect the safety of our residents."
