According to Chosun University Hospital on the 12th, a pregnant woman (32 weeks) who tested positive for COVID-19 on the 9th successfully gave birth.
This is the second successful delivery following the birth of a COVID-19 positive mother at 39 weeks of pregnancy last November.
The mother, Ms. A, who became the mother of twin daughters this time, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on the 2nd and was admitted to the negative pressure isolation ward at Chosun University Hospital the next day.
Chosun University Hospital worked hard to minimize the risks of premature birth by administering suppression treatment for early labor at 31 weeks of pregnancy so that the fetus could grow further in the uterus.
Additionally, based on previous experience with COVID-19 positive mothers' deliveries, the hospital immediately organized medical staff from the departments of obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, anesthesiology and pain medicine, operating room, and infection control to prepare for various issues including delivery, postpartum care, and neonatal transport.
In particular, 20 to 30 personnel were mobilized just for delivery preparation. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, a portable negative pressure device was installed in the operating room, plastic sheets were set up, movement was minimized using a negative pressure transport cart, and disinfection was performed at every movement path, strengthening quarantine measures.
Thanks to these efforts to establish a safe childbirth environment, despite the emergency situation caused by the mother's water breaking, the twins were safely delivered through an emergency cesarean section.
The mother is receiving treatment in the negative pressure isolation ward after delivery and is recovering, including light walking exercises.
Although there was concern about vertical transmission of the coronavirus from the mother to the twins, three tests all resulted in a final negative diagnosis.
The babies are in relatively good health and are receiving inpatient treatment in the neonatal intensive care unit.
