'Police University' Jinyoung, the Beloved Actor's Welcome Return
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Isul] Actor Jinyoung is back. Returning with a more dignified appearance after his military discharge, his new face revealed through ‘Police University’ is warmly welcomed.
Jinyoung played the role of Kang Sunho, a freshman at the Police University, in KBS2’s Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Police University’ (written by Min Jung, directed by Yoo Kwanmo), which premiered on the 9th.
‘Police University’ is a drama about a passionate detective who never hesitates and a former hacker turned criminal student with no dreams or hopes but a brilliant mind, who meet as professor and student at the Police University and collaborate on investigations.
Jinyoung attracted attention by completing the colorless and odorless Sunho with a distinctive performance. Especially, he delicately expressed the character’s narrative of gradually finding purpose and vitality after meeting Yoo Dongman (played by Cha Taehyun) and Kang Hee (played by Jung Soojung).
Jinyoung portrayed the affection and tenderness he feels for his family members Taeil (played by Oh Manseok) and Seungbeom (played by Choi Woosung), as well as the loneliness residing in one corner of his heart. Conversely, he vividly expressed anger and bewilderment toward Dongman and the feelings of love he experiences for the first time in his life toward Kang Hee.
Jinyoung debuted in 2011 as a member of the group B1A4 and gained immense popularity. Transitioning to acting in 2013, he was loved for his stable performances in dramas such as ‘Love in the Moonlight’, ‘Warm and Cozy’, and the Netflix original series ‘Because This Is My First Life’.
He made a strong impression as an actor by winning the KBS Drama Awards’ Best New Actor for his role as Kim Yoonseong in ‘Love in the Moonlight’, which ended in October 2016. He then expanded his career into film with impressive performances in ‘Miss Granny’ (2014) and ‘Inseparable Bros’ (2018), broadening his presence in Chungmuro.
He also completed his mandatory military service. Jinyoung enlisted on June 20, 2019, completed basic military training, and served as an alternative service worker. Returning after discharge on April 9, he made a comeback with ‘Police University’ after two years, earning praise for blending seamlessly into the drama despite the hiatus.
Jinyoung is an actor with even greater expectations for the future. Having consistently delivered stable performances that audiences can trust, attention is focused on his upcoming activities both on television and in Chungmuro.
