China-Russia Five-Day Joint Military Exercise "Utilizing Latest Weapons and Tactics"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] On the 11th, Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported that China and Russia conducted joint military exercises using the latest weapons and tactics.
The joint military exercises between China and Russia, involving over 10,000 troops, began on the 9th in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, China. The five-day exercises included emergency troop deployment, heavy weapon drops, long-range attacks by J-16 fighter-bombers, and drone utilization tests.
In an interview with local media, Liu Xiaowu, Deputy Commander of the Western Theater Command of the Chinese military, stated, "81% of the weapons used in this exercise are new models, including the J-20 (stealth fighter), KJ-500 (early warning aircraft), J-16, reconnaissance and combat drones, and new armored vehicles."
Beijing military expert Zhou Chenming said, "It is the first time that the Russian military has used many of China's latest weapons in large-scale exercises," adding, "This will help the Russian military improve its joint operation and combat capabilities with the People's Liberation Army."
He explained, "In particular, the deployment of new-generation J-20, Y-20, and other sophisticated weapons also aims to suppress extremists and terrorist forces in Central Asia."
Considering that the Russian military has more combat experience than the People's Liberation Army, military expert Lu Lishi, a former instructor at the Taiwan Naval Academy, said that the decades of training and modernization efforts of the Chinese military will be tested by new tactical concepts in the counterterrorism field.
