Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Signs Contract to Supply Seismic Automatic Shutdown Equipment for Tenwan Nuclear Power Plant in China
[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is expanding its orders for nuclear power plant instrumentation and control equipment in the Chinese nuclear power market.
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction announced on the 11th that it signed a supply contract for seismic automatic shutdown equipment to be installed at Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant Units 7 and 8 with CTEC, an instrumentation and control subsidiary of the Chinese state-owned CGN Group. This follows a series of orders after signing a supply contract for seismic automatic shutdown equipment for Xudabao Nuclear Power Plant Units 3 and 4 in March. Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction will supply seismic automatic shutdown equipment to Tianwan Nuclear Power Plant Units 7 and 8, located on the eastern coast of Jiangsu Province, China, by 2024.
Seismic automatic shutdown equipment is a key component of the nuclear power plant instrumentation and control system, which functions as the brain and nervous system of the plant. It is a safety device that detects earthquakes during plant operation and automatically controls the reactor to stop its reaction if the seismic intensity exceeds a set threshold.
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has supplied seismic automatic shutdown equipment to all 28 nuclear power plants constructed domestically, and based on this, it has also participated in the Xudabao Units 3 and 4 and Tianwan Units 7 and 8 projects in China.
