Delivery workers, platform laborers, gas meter readers, and other workers in highly mobile occupations are inevitably exposed to the heatwave in their working environment. In particular, as social distancing measures have been strengthened, the demand for non-face-to-face services has surged, increasing the intensity of their labor.
Accordingly, Jeju Development Corporation plans to place frozen Jeju Samdasoo at 17 shelters operated by the Seoul and Metropolitan Labor Rights Centers in cooperation with the Community Chest of Korea and the Seoul Labor Rights Center, so that the relevant workers can continuously replenish fluids while on the move.
President Kim Jeong-hak said, “We decided to provide this support to help mobile workers who are working under increasingly difficult conditions due to the surge in non-face-to-face service users and the disaster-level heatwave.”
