The 2nd Watcha Series and Film Contest Held... Total Prize Money of 100 Million Won
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Cho] Online video service (OTT) Watcha announced on the 9th that it will hold the ‘Watcha Series & Movie Contest’ again this year following last year. The total prize money is about 100 million KRW.
The contest allows freedom in both genre and subject matter. Entries can be a series plan and script totaling more than 240 minutes or a feature-length commercial movie plan and screenplay of over 90 minutes. Both new and established writers can participate. However, submissions are limited to one work per person, and co-writing is not allowed. The submission period is from 0:00 on November 1 to 17:00 on November 8.
Watcha will select a total of 10 works in the series and movie categories, awarding 20 million KRW for the grand prize, 10 million KRW for the excellence award, and 5 million KRW for the encouragement award. Winning works may be produced as Watcha original content after the announcement.
Park Taehoon, CEO of Watcha, said, "I believe that Watcha can bring the ‘joy of discovery’ to more people thanks to the passion and inspiration of many writers around the world," and added, "We hope for many applications to this contest."

Meanwhile, more than 600 works were submitted to the 1st Watcha Series Screenplay Contest last year. The grand prize was awarded to the legendary writer’s work ‘Gongdan.’ The story depicts the growth through mutual understanding between a North Korean woman and a South Korean woman working in the Kaesong Industrial Complex, and it is currently being produced as a movie.
