[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) announced on the 6th that it has completed the formation of the 5th KCSC, consisting of a total of nine presidential appointees.
Following the appointment of seven members on the 23rd of last month, two additional members recommended by the National Assembly's Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee were finally appointed as of today.
According to the "Act on the Establishment and Operation of the Korea Communications Commission," the KCSC members are appointed by the president, including three recommended by the Speaker of the National Assembly in consultation with the representatives of the ruling parties, and three recommended by the relevant standing committees of the National Assembly, totaling nine appointees.
The relevant standing committee, the Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting and Communications Committee, recommended two members: Kim Woo-seok, visiting professor at the Graduate School of Public Administration at Kookmin University, and Lee Sang-hwi, professor at Semyung University, who were then appointed by the president. The term of these two members is three years, from August 6, 2021, to August 5, 2024.
The 5th KCSC will hold its first plenary meeting at 3 p.m. on the 9th, where the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and three standing members will be elected by secret ballot.

The 5th Korea Communications Standards Commission plans to handle pending matters accumulated over more than six months, including the formation of the 20th presidential election broadcast review committee, which is a statutory duty, as well as the review of broadcasting, communications, and digital sex crime information cases.
