[Obituary] Former JCS Chairman Yoon Yong-nam Passes Away... To Be Buried at Daejeon National Cemetery on the 8th
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter]General Yoon Yong-nam, who served as the Chief of Staff of the Army and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away early morning on the 6th. He was 80 years old.
Born in 1940 in Uiryeong, Gyeongnam, General Yoon entered the Korea Military Academy in 1959. He served as the commander of the 6th Infantry Division, the 5th Corps, and the 3rd Field Army, and during the Kim Young-sam administration, he held the positions of the 31st Chief of Staff of the Army and the 27th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
While serving as the Army Chief of Staff, he contributed to establishing the development goals of the Army by creating a basic policy planning document. Later, as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, he also contributed to the advancement of joint and ROK-US combined operational capabilities.

He is survived by his wife Ha Mi-kyung and son Yoon Tae-hyung (News1 Diplomatic Security Chief). The funeral hall is set up at Bundang Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall, and the memorial service will be held on the morning of the 8th, followed by the burial ceremony at the National Daejeon National Cemetery around 1 p.m. on the same day.
