Moderna "93% Effectiveness 6 Months After Second Dose"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] Moderna announced that its COVID-19 vaccine maintains a 93% effectiveness rate even six months after the second dose.
On the 5th (local time), Moderna released its Q2 earnings and disclosed the final analysis results of its Phase 3 clinical trial, according to CNBC and others.
The 93% effectiveness rate is nearly unchanged from the initial 94% effectiveness of the Moderna vaccine. Considering that Pfizer's vaccine effectiveness dropped from 95% initially to 84% after six months, this is an excellent result.
However, Moderna acknowledged that "the Delta variant poses a new threat to the vaccine's effectiveness" and stated, "Antibody levels are expected to decline before this winter, making a third booster shot necessary."
They also revealed that administering only half the original dose for the third booster shot generated "a robust antibody response" against three variant viruses, including the Delta variant.
