View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] President Moon Jae-in appointed Ko Gyu-chang, Director of the Planning and Coordination Office (age 57), as the new Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and Lee Seung-woo, Director of the Disaster Cooperation Office (age 53), as the Head of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters on the 5th.
Park Soo-hyun, Chief of Public Communication at the Blue House, announced this personnel appointment on the same day, stating, "The new Vice Minister Ko is an administrative expert who has held key positions in central government ministries and local governments and is currently serving as the Director of the Planning and Coordination Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety."
He added, "He is expected to flawlessly carry out national tasks such as resident-centered local autonomy and decentralization, regional balanced New Deal for revitalizing the local economy, and government innovation, thanks to his broad understanding of local field conditions and outstanding policy planning capabilities."
The new Vice Minister Ko graduated from Cheongju High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Social Welfare, earned a master's degree in Public Administration from Seoul National University, a master's degree from the KDI School of Public Policy and Management, and a doctorate in Public Administration from Kyung Hee University. He passed the 33rd Administrative Examination and has served as Deputy Governor of Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Director of the Local Finance and Economy Office, and Director of the Planning and Coordination Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
Additionally, President Moon appointed Lee Seung-woo, Director of the Disaster Cooperation Office, as the Head of the Disaster Safety Management Headquarters. Chief Park explained the appointment reason, saying, "He is a bureaucrat who has held key positions related to disaster safety within the Ministry of the Interior and Safety," and "Based on his diverse disaster response experience and work execution ability, he will faithfully carry out comprehensive COVID-19 response efforts and innovation of the disaster safety management system."

The new Head Lee graduated from Chungju Daewon High School and Korea University with a degree in Public Administration, passed the 36th Administrative Examination, and has served in the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as Special Disaster Cooperation Officer, Social Disaster Response Policy Officer, Regional Development Policy Officer, and Director of the Disaster Cooperation Office.
