Wanju-gun Installs Roundabout at Moak Sageori Intersection
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju-gun announced on the 4th that it will install a roundabout at Moak Intersection in Wongiri, Guui-myeon, where hikers of Moaksan Mountain frequently pass.
According to the county, Moak Intersection is located between Moak Lake Village and the entrance to the Moaksan hiking trail, and during peak hiking seasons, traffic congestion is frequent and the risk of accidents is high.
Accordingly, Wanju-gun will invest a total of 280 million KRW, including national funds, to install a signal-free roundabout.
They plan to start detailed design work within this month and complete the project within this year.
Unlike at-grade intersections, roundabouts have no signal waiting time and guide vehicles passing through the intersection to drive at low speeds, which helps reduce traffic accidents and improve traffic safety levels.
Additionally, since there is no delay caused by signal waiting, it reduces fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, earning it the name "green transportation."
Wanju-gun expects that the installation of the roundabout will reduce the risk of traffic accidents for visitors to Moaksan Mountain and contribute to landscape improvement by utilizing the central traffic island.
