Japan Deploys Additional Missile Units Near Senkaku to Curb China
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The Japanese government is reportedly planning to deploy additional missile units near the Senkaku Islands, which are subject to a territorial dispute with China.
The Japanese Ministry of Defense has solidified plans to station a Ground Self-Defense Force missile unit on Ishigakijima in Okinawa Prefecture by the end of next year, and according to Yomiuri Shimbun, it intends to include a budget to deploy 500-600 personnel.
Ishigakijima is located about 150 km southeast of the Senkaku Islands and approximately 230 km east of Taiwan.

Japan is also pushing for additional Self-Defense Force deployments, including stationing an electronic warfare unit on Yonagunijima in Okinawa by March 2024.
