They stated, "We have filed a lawsuit for damages against the Jongno Police Station chief and the head of the security department, who either committed illegal acts such as obstructing the press conference of the National Revolutionary Party and assaulting lawyers or actually ordered and directed such actions."
The National Revolutionary Party, represented by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church, held a press conference in front of Donghwa Duty-Free Shop in Jongno-gu, Seoul, the previous day, announcing plans to hold a rally at Gwanghwamun Square on August 15, Liberation Day. About eight people attended the press conference at that time. Currently, due to social distancing level 4, only solo protests are permitted. When the police requested voluntary dispersal, the National Revolutionary Party protested, stating, "A political party's press conference is a public duty and therefore is not subject to the Assembly and Demonstration Act," and added, "We will file a state compensation lawsuit against the Jongno Police Station chief and the head of the security department for obstructing a legitimate press conference."
