Wanju-gun Completes Suman 3 District Redevelopment Project
[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju-gun announced on the 3rd that it has completed the ‘Suman 3 District Steep Slope Collapse Risk Area Maintenance Project’ in the Suman-ri area of Dongsang-myeon on County Road No. 20.
According to the county, County Road No. 20 is a road connecting Daeheung-ri in Soyang-myeon and Daea-ri in Dongsang-myeon, frequently used by tourists visiting Daea Reservoir and Daea Arboretum, representative attractions of Wanju-gun.
However, frequent rockfalls have compromised road traffic safety, continuously raising the need for maintenance.
Accordingly, Wanju-gun secured a project budget of 5.1 billion KRW (3.5 billion KRW from national and provincial funds) to carry out the maintenance construction for the steep slope collapse risk area in Suman 3 District.
The main construction involved relocating the steep slope section composed of sharp curves and rock formations, starting in February 2019 and completing in July this year.
Notably, instead of the conventional method of rock cutting and installing rockfall prevention nets for slope stabilization, the project was planned to improve the road alignment through bridge installation and relocate the road away from the risk area.
Additionally, Wanju-gun plans to complete the ‘Daea 3 District Steep Slope Maintenance Project’ on Provincial Road No. 732, connecting Gosan-myeon and Daea-ri in Dongsang-myeon, within this year, which is expected to further enhance the safety of road users traveling through the Dongsang area.
