Women's Volleyball Faces Turkey for Semifinal Ticket

The women's volleyball team, ranked 13th in the world, will face 4th-ranked Turkey in a battle for a spot in the semifinals. Turkey was selected as the opponent in the quarterfinal draw for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics women's volleyball held on the 2nd. The match will take place at 9 a.m. on the 4th at Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.
The team finished the group stage in Pool A with 3 wins, 2 losses, and 7 points. They ranked 3rd in the group behind world No. 2 Brazil (5 wins, 14 points) and No. 8 Serbia (4 wins, 1 loss, 12 points). The 2nd and 3rd place teams from Pool A will face the 2nd and 3rd place teams from Pool B in the quarterfinals, determined by a draw.
Turkey, which placed 3rd in Pool B, is a traditional powerhouse. They lead the head-to-head record against the team with 7 wins and 2 losses. They also defeated the team 3-1 in sets at the FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) held in Italy on June 20.
Pool A's 1st place Brazil will compete against the 4th place Russian Olympic Committee (5th overall) from Pool B for a semifinal ticket. Pool A's 2nd place Serbia will face Italy (7th) in the quarterfinals. Pool A's 4th place Dominican Republic (6th) will meet Pool B's 1st place and world No. 1 United States.
