Mokpo City Supports Cooling Expenses for Low-Income Vulnerable Groups
Incentives for Competition Winners: 40,000 Won per Household Supported for a Total of 300 Households
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seung-hyun Jeong] Mokpo City supports healthy summer living for low-income vulnerable groups.
On the 2nd, the city announced that it will provide 'heatwave cooling costs' support to the elderly, disabled, multi-child households, and crisis households vulnerable to heatwaves.
Due to the prolonged heatwave increasing the cooling cost burden on vulnerable groups, the city planned this project to alleviate the economic burden of electricity bills and prevent heatwave accidents among elderly and disabled households through cooling cost support.
The target is 300 households in the lower-income class and crisis households excluding energy voucher recipient households, providing 40,000 KRW per household, totaling 12 million KRW.
The funding is a financial incentive secured by winning the grand prize in the 'Establishment of Visiting Health and Welfare Service Support System' category at the '2020 Visiting Health and Welfare Field Best Practice Competition' hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

A city official said, "As heatwaves are becoming longer due to the climate crisis, summer living is becoming more difficult for vulnerable groups. Cooling costs are a burden for low-income groups to the extent that they affect quality of life. We will continue to make efforts in energy welfare for the healthy lives of low-income people."
