‘Mentor to President Moon’ Father Song Gi-in to Serve as Chair of Lee Nak-yeon Support Committee

On the 2nd, former Democratic Party leader and ruling party presidential candidate Lee Nak-yeon appointed Father Song Ki-in, known as a mentor to the late President Roh Moo-hyun and President Moon Jae-in, as co-chairman of his support committee.
The Lee Nak-yeon campaign announced that "Father Song will take on the role of chairman of Lee's support committee and begin full-scale activities."
Currently, the chairman of Lee's support committee is Kim Sa-yeol, chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee, known as a 'Yeongnam elder,' and Father Song will serve as co-chairman.
Ordained as a priest in 1972, Father Song participated in the Priests for Justice and has been involved in anti-dictatorship struggles. After democratization, he served as chairman of the Busan Democratic Uprising Memorial Association and was the inaugural chairman of the Past Affairs Settlement Committee for Truth and Reconciliation.
Since retiring from pastoral duties in 2005, he has voiced opinions as a senior figure within the ruling party.

The Lee Nak-yeon campaign stated, "Father Song also has a special friendship with President Moon," adding, "Recently, ahead of the Supreme Court ruling on Kim Kyung-soo, governor of Gyeongnam Province who was re-imprisoned, he submitted a petition to the Supreme Court requesting leniency."
