Strengthening Safety Management During Transport of Imported Aquatic Animal Pathogens
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on the 1st that it has revised the 'Import Permit Guidelines for Aquatic Animal Pathogens' to strengthen safety management of aquatic animal pathogens imported from overseas for research and development purposes, and to allow distribution to third parties.
With this regulatory revision, from now on, packaging to prevent leakage must be used when transporting imported aquatic animal infectious disease pathogens, and the status of possession must be reported once a year after import. If there is no need to continue holding the pathogens or if management is not possible due to business closure, disposal must be carried out and the results reported.
Within the scope that does not infringe on patent rights or copyrights, imported pathogens may also be distributed to third parties.

Until now, there was a regulation requiring import permit review for the first importer of pathogens, but there was no procedure to confirm post-import safety management of the pathogens. Accordingly, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries explained that it was difficult to properly verify safety management in the field after import.
