COVID-19 Also Attacks the Eye Retina
After infecting the respiratory system, it seems to spread throughout the body, reaching various tissues and organs.
[Asia Economy Senior Reporter Jinsoo Lee] It has been revealed that COVID-19 also attacks the retina, causing various eye problems.
It was already known that COVID-19 can cause blurred vision and very small floaters in the eye. However, researchers at the Federal University of S?o Paulo in Brazil found traces of COVID-19 in the retinas of deceased COVID-19 patients.
Dr. Alexia Marcos, who participated in this study, warned, "It is clear that COVID-19 infects the respiratory system first and then spreads throughout the body, reaching various tissues and organs. The eyes are no exception, and many changes occur in the retina."
The study found COVID-19 molecules in several layers of the retina. This is presumed to be related to some of the symptoms already reported concerning vision.
