Prevention of Heat-Related Illnesses for Workers at Gwangyang Port 2nd Petrochemical Wharf
[Gwangyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seonsik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Cha Minsik) announced on the 29th that it has installed and begun operating a heat relief shelter called ‘Comfortainer (Comfort + Container)’ for workers at the Gwangyang Port construction site.
The authority converted a container into a shelter equipped with air conditioning at the Gwangyang Port 2nd Petrochemical Wharf construction site to prevent heat-related damage to outdoor construction workers.
Additionally, they distributed heatstroke prevention supplies (neck shades, sun caps, cool patches, saline glucose, etc.), refreshing beverages, and leaflets with the ‘Three Basic Heatstroke Prevention Rules (Water, Shade, Rest) Implementation Guide’ to workers, urging them to follow safety management measures against heatwaves.
Furthermore, a ‘Safety Pledge’ was conducted with related personnel to emphasize the importance of everyone maintaining awareness of safety accidents during the summer season.
Choi Sangheon, Vice President of the Development Business Division, stated, “A flexible work time management system, such as temporarily suspending construction during peak heat hours, is necessary to prevent heat-related illnesses like heatstroke among on-site workers during the hot summer. The authority will continue to make every effort by exploring various support measures.”
