View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The government expressed its welcome on the 27th regarding the restoration of the inter-Korean communication liaison channel and hoped that communication would never be interrupted again.
Lee Jong-joo, spokesperson for the Ministry of Unification, said at a briefing held at the Government Seoul Office Building on the same day, "We welcome the restoration of the inter-Korean communication liaison line," and added, "We hope that communication between the South and the North will never be interrupted again, and that through the restored communication liaison line, various inter-Korean issues can be discussed and agreed-upon matters can be implemented."
The Ministry of Unification announced that at 10 a.m. that day, calls were made via the direct phone lines at Panmunjom and the Inter-Korean Joint Liaison Office. In the case of the liaison office, due to technical inspections and other issues, the attempt was made at 10 a.m., but the actual call took place after 11 a.m.
The spokesperson said, "During today's call, our liaison representative said, 'We are glad that the call has resumed. Now that the communication liaison line has been restored, we hope to continue delivering joyful news to the entire Korean people,'" and added, "We proposed having regular calls at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and the North side agreed."
