LGU+ Strengthens Kids Content with Equity Investment in 'Jellico' Producer
Popular Kids Content Producers Dream Factory Studio Behind 'Jellico' and 'PangPangDino'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seolgina Cho] LG Uplus announced on the 27th that it has made an equity investment in Dream Factory Studio, the producer of popular animations "Jellico" and "PangPangDino," to strengthen its kids content capabilities.
Focusing on Dream Factory Studio's planning and production capabilities for kids content, LG Uplus plans to further enhance the content competitiveness of its kids platform, 'U+ Idle Nara,' through this investment. Going forward, the two companies will collaborate on ▲producing original content based on LG Uplus's characters 'Yuppi and Friends' ▲securing intellectual property (IP) rights for PangPangDino and new animations.
Dream Factory Studio, established in 2014, is an animation production company with popular content such as Jellico. Thanks to Jellico's popularity in overseas markets including China, it received export towers worth $1 million and $3 million on Trade Day in 2019 and 2020, respectively. PangPangDino, which has been airing on KBS since May, is also continuing its success by ranking first in viewership ratings among terrestrial children's programs.
LG Uplus plans to expand its cooperative relationships with partners possessing excellent production capabilities. Previously, it also made an equity investment in Monster Studio, which produced "Bread Barber Shop" and others.
Jongwook Park, Chief Strategy Officer (CSO, Executive Director) of LG Uplus, said, "Dream Factory Studio is a small but strong company recognized for outstanding export performance and production expertise among domestic animation producers. We will continue to secure IP through partnerships and investments with competitive partners to strengthen original kids content competitiveness and develop U+ Idle Nara into an 'educational platform.'"
