[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Chung Euisun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, personally visited and cheered the Korean women's archery team, who achieved a historic 9 consecutive wins in the Olympic team event, on the 25th.
Chairman Chung, who had been on a business trip to the United States, stopped by Yumenoshima Park Archery Field in Tokyo, Japan, on his way back home, where the competition was taking place.
The Korean women's archery team, composed of Kang Chaeyoung (Hyundai Mobis), Jang Minhee (Incheon National University), and An San (Gwangju Women's University), defeated Russia 6-0 in the final match that day.
When the gold medal was confirmed, Chairman Chung stood up and gave generous applause to the women's archery team.
The relationship between Korean archery and Hyundai Motor Group began with the previous generation, Honorary Chairman Chung Mongkoo.
In 1984, Chung, then president of Hyundai Precision (now Hyundai Mobis), decided to foster archery after watching the women's individual archery event at the LA Olympics and was inaugurated as president of the Korea Archery Association in 1985. Subsequently, he established a women's archery team at Hyundai Precision and a men's archery team at Hyundai Steel.
He served as president of the Korea Archery Association four times from 1985 to 1997 and continued to remain as honorary chairman, investing over 38 billion KRW over 29 years in expanding the base of archery, discovering talent, and developing equipment.
Following his father's legacy, Chairman Chung Euisun began his first term as president of the Archery Association in May 2005 and has supported Korean archery for 16 years.
