Gyeongbuk Province Secures 49.5 Billion KRW National Funding for Pohang, Gyeongsan, Uiseong 'Smart Sewerage System'
Pohang City Establishes ICT-Based Response System in Chronic Flooding Areas
Gyeongsan and Uiseong Cities Implement ICT Monitoring Systems at Public Sewage Treatment Facilities
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 25th that Pohang City, Gyeongsan City, and Uiseong County have been selected for the Ministry of Environment's project, 'Smart Sewerage Management System Construction Project,' securing a total project cost of 71.7 billion KRW (49.5 billion KRW national funds, 22.2 billion KRW local funds).
The Smart Sewerage Management System Construction Project is a project to establish a smart sewerage management system based on ICT for real-time monitoring, remote control management, and intelligence throughout the entire sewage treatment process.
The Ministry of Environment conducted a demand survey last September and, after project evaluations, finally selected 33 sites in 13 cities and provinces nationwide. In Gyeongbuk, Pohang City, Gyeongsan City, and Uiseong County were selected, securing 49.5 billion KRW in national funds.
Accordingly, in Pohang City, an ICT-based smart urban flood response system will be established with a budget of 14 billion KRW (9.8 billion KRW national funds, 4.2 billion KRW local funds), focusing on areas affected by lowland flooding, road flooding, and residential flooding caused by consecutive typhoons such as 'Sanba' (2012), 'Chaba' (2016), and 'Kong-rey' (2018).
Additionally, 35 billion KRW in national funds will be invested to install an ICT-based real-time odor management system to fundamentally block sewer odors in densely populated residential areas including Jukdo-dong, Haedo-dong, and Sangdae-dong.
Gyeongsan Public Sewage Treatment Facility (facility capacity 40,000 m³/day), which has been continuously expanded since its completion in 2000, and Uiseong Public Sewage Treatment Facility (facility capacity 8,000 m³/day), completed in 2003, will each receive 1.8 billion KRW and 1.2 billion KRW in national funds respectively for leading sewer asset management projects.
Separately, Uiseong Public Sewage Treatment Facility will receive an additional 3.2 billion KRW (1.6 billion KRW national funds, 1.6 billion KRW local funds) to support the smart sewage treatment plant leading project, including the establishment of an ICT-based measurement and monitoring system and a digital-based decision support system. The Uiseong Public Sewage Treatment Facility is an important facility used by about 25% (13,000 people) of Uiseong County residents.
