Jang Jun Wins Bronze Medal in Men's 58kg Taekwondo
Hungarian Rising Star Omar Salim Defeated 46-16
Jang Jun (Korea National Sport University), the world No. 1 in men's Taekwondo 58kg category, won a bronze medal in his first Olympic appearance. On the 24th, at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Taekwondo event held at Makuhari Messe Hall A in Chiba, Japan, he defeated Hungary's rising star Omar Salim 46-16 in the men's 58kg bronze medal match. Although he failed to secure the gold medal he aimed for, he brought the first medal to the Taekwondo national team, upholding the pride of the sport's country of origin. Our national team also won a bronze medal in this category at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics (Kim Tae-hoon).
Earlier, Jang Jun lost 19-25 to Tunisia's Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi in the semifinals, missing the chance to advance to the final. In the women's 49kg category, Shim Jae-young (Chuncheon City Hall) was defeated 7-16 by Japan's Yamada Miyu in the quarterfinals.
