Majangmasul Kim Dongseon Fails to Advance to Finals
Ranked 8th Among 9 Members in Group A
Kim Dong-seon (32), the only Korean equestrian athlete to participate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, failed to advance to the finals. On the 24th, at the Tokyo Olympic dressage individual preliminary round held at Masa Park in Tokyo, Japan, he competed with his horse "Belstaff" and scored 63.447%. He ranked 8th out of nine competitors in Group A.
In this competition, fifty-nine dressage riders were divided into six groups for the preliminary rounds. The final qualification spots were awarded to the top 1-2 riders from each group and six additional riders with the next highest scores, totaling eighteen finalists. Kim Dong-seon placed in the lower ranks and concluded his competition early.
Dressage is a discipline where riders perform routines by guiding their horses along a prescribed course. The competition takes place in a flat arena measuring 60m by 20m. Kim Dong-seon is the third son of Kim Seung-yeon, chairman of Hanwha Group. He was also the only Korean equestrian athlete to compete in this event at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. At that time, he returned home early due to a family bereavement after completing the first preliminary round.
