[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Yu Geun-gi) announced on the 23rd that it is strengthening safety management at five water play vulnerable areas until August 30th in preparation for the summer vacation season.
The safety management reinforcement targets a total of five locations: Hogok Ferry Terminal, Sewolgyo Bridge in front of Dugahyeon, Gokseong Youth Campground, Amnok Recreation Area, and the former Jukgok Camping Site. Gokseong-gun has deployed a total of 15 water play safety personnel distributed across these vulnerable areas.
Additionally, safety facilities such as water play prohibition signs and lifesaving equipment, which were washed away by last year's flood damage, have been reinstalled.
In particular, Gokseong-gun enhanced professionalism by conducting systematic training for safety personnel, including life ring throwing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, with the cooperation of the local fire brigade. Furthermore, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, education on quarantine rules such as wearing masks and social distancing was also conducted.
Currently, safety personnel are patrolling and conducting guidance activities in their assigned areas. Moreover, the county safety management officer visits vulnerable areas daily to inspect the activities of safety personnel and the safety of facilities.
Especially on weekends when many vacationers gather, an emergency standby team composed of two public officials is organized to carry out even more intensified patrol activities.
Although the number of water play users has decreased due to COVID-19, Gokseong-gun maintains vigilance with the belief that water accidents can occur at any time.
A county official stated, “We prohibit entering the water, fishing, and collecting freshwater snails in areas with a high risk of accidents, and we will do our best to ensure that people can safely enjoy their summer vacations in places where water play is allowed.”
