Chungnam to Establish 'Bio and Medical Comprehensive Support Center' in Cheonan and Asan

[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province is establishing a ‘Bio·Medical Comprehensive Support Center’ in Cheonan and Asan.

According to the province on the 23rd, the day before, Chungnam Governor Yang Seung-jo, Asan Mayor Oh Se-hyun, and Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL) President Kim Se-jong signed a business agreement regarding the establishment of the ‘Bio·Medical Comprehensive Support Center.’

According to the agreement, the three organizations will complete land acquisition and design within the year, and by the end of 2023, the center will be constructed on a 6,600㎡ site within the Cheonan·Asan R&D cluster district. The total budget for the center’s construction is 52 billion KRW.

After completion, the center will carry out medical device and pharmaceutical biological safety testing and evaluation, medical device testing and evaluation, technical document review, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) inspection for pharmaceuticals, and business support for companies.

Additionally, by 2024, KTL specialized personnel will be assigned to the center, and in the same year, it plans to receive designation as an accredited testing institution.

Meanwhile, KTL, headquartered in Jinju, Gyeongnam, is the only public comprehensive testing and certification institution in Korea, performing product testing and evaluation, quality certification support, various facility safety inspections, technical supervision, and support for obtaining overseas certifications.
