On the 22nd, according to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team), Moderna's vaccine demonstrated 94.1% effectiveness in a Phase 3 clinical trial involving 30,420 participants. Additionally, in Canada, after administering the first dose to 421,073 people, the vaccine's effectiveness against variants was confirmed as 83% for the Alpha variant, 77% for the Beta and Gamma variants, and 72% for the Delta variant.
The effectiveness in preventing hospitalization or death after the first dose was reported as 79% for the Alpha variant, 89% for the Beta and Gamma variants, and 96% for the Delta variant.
Baek Gyeong-taek, Head of the Central Disease Control Headquarters Situation Management Team, stated at the COVID-19 regular briefing that "Currently, 63,248 healthcare workers in the country have received the Moderna vaccine," and added, "If symptoms suspected of myocarditis or pericarditis occur after receiving the Moderna vaccine, or if facial swelling appears in those who have had skin filler procedures, they should promptly seek medical attention."
Furthermore, starting from the 26th, Moderna vaccine administration will begin for people in their 50s. The supply of Moderna vaccines for the 50s age group is gradually arriving. On this day as well, 290,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine were delivered to the country, bringing the total doses introduced this month to 1.04 million. According to the Promotion Team, an additional 31 million doses are expected to be supplied by the end of August.
