Biden: "Vaccinations for Under 12s Could Start as Early as Late August"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] U.S. President Joe Biden stated on the 21st (local time) that "children under 12 will soon be included in the COVID-19 vaccination target group, and I am optimistic about this."
According to foreign media, President Biden said at a town hall event hosted by CNN in Cincinnati, Ohio, "Scientists are conducting experiments related to vaccination for those under 12 and are reaching conclusions." Currently, the U.S. allows vaccination for adolescents aged 12 and older.
He said, "Vaccine approval for children in this age group, limited to emergency situations, will be expedited." Although he did not specify an exact date, he added, "Final approval could come as early as late August or as late as early October."
However, he warned, "All children under 12 will probably have to wear masks at school," and "The situation at schools could be difficult."
As confirmed cases surged in the U.S. due to the spread of the Delta variant, President Biden visited Ohio, a Republican stronghold, to boost the stagnant vaccination rate.
