On the 22nd, the Blue House released a response to a national petition concerning the 'Han River missing university student death case.' The petitioner requested a thorough investigation into the cause of death of the missing university student in the Han River, and over 520,000 citizens agreed with the petition.
The Blue House stated, "According to the investigation conducted so far, no circumstances related to a crime have been confirmed regarding the deceased's death," adding, "A Death Case Review Committee consisting of eight members, including private experts from various fields, was convened to comprehensively review the necessity for additional investigation and whether to close the case. It was decided to close the case."
The Blue House explained, "After the late Son Jeong-min was found dead in the Han River on April 30, the police deployed all seven teams of the violent crimes division at Seocho Police Station to clarify the cause and circumstances of death."
The Blue House added, "They analyzed 126 CCTV cameras, secured 193 vehicles entering the park, investigated 16 key witnesses, conducted underwater rescue and soil analysis at the scene, analyzed call records and performed digital forensics on mobile phones of related persons, had the National Forensic Service examine the clothing worn by the deceased at the time, and mobilized the riot police and Han River patrol teams to search the scene, doing their utmost to reconstruct the situation of that day."
In this regard, the police confirmed that there were no circumstances indicating the death was related to a crime and closed the case.
