[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Public Procurement Service (PPS) is supporting the Digital New Deal by revitalizing information technology product transactions.

On the 21st, the PPS announced that by the end of this year, it plans to establish an ‘Integrated Platform for Public Information and Communication Technology (IT) Products’ to enable ▲advancement of a digital service exclusive mall ▲establishment of an IT product purchasing system including open software and data transactions ▲and integrated provision of public IT bidding information.

First, the advancement of the digital service exclusive mall will focus on core functions such as providing customized product information, electronic quotation requests, negotiation functions, and simplifying contract procedures linked with related agency systems.

The IT product purchasing system will newly promote the contracting and shopping mall registration of products combining open software and maintenance services recently used in artificial intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), etc. To activate data-based administrative support and public purchase of private data, it will apply contract methods suitable for data product types to enable registration in the shopping mall.

Additionally, the integrated provision of public IT bidding information will provide a separate service that allows users such as procurement companies to search various bidding information including pre-specifications, announcements, bid openings, and awards for public IT projects ordered through the Korea ON-line E-Procurement System (KONEPS), thereby enhancing user convenience.

The PPS expects that once the integrated platform with these functions is established, it will enable transactions of IT products required by public institutions across the board, including digital services such as cloud services under the ‘Digital Service Specialized Contract System,’ commercial software, open software, data transactions, and IT expert support services.

Kang Kyung-hoon, Director of the New Technology Service Bureau at the PPS, said, “With the emergence of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, and the rapid growth of non-face-to-face industries due to COVID-19, the digital transformation of the public sector is progressing at a fast pace.” He added, “The PPS plans to collaborate with the private sector to improve the interface so that the integrated platform can serve as a hub for innovative IT product transactions.”
