[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seok-jin, Legal Affairs Specialist] On the 21st, the Supreme Court's 2nd Division (Presiding Justice Min Yoo-sook) held the sentencing hearing for the appeal of Won Yoo-chul, former leader of the Mirae Korea Party (now the People Power Party), who was indicted on charges of bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, receiving bribes for mediation under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, and violations of the Political Funds Act. The court upheld the original ruling, recognizing guilt for receiving bribes for mediation under the Specific Economic Crimes Act and violations of the Political Funds Act, sentencing him to 1 year and 6 months in prison and a fine of 900,000 won, respectively.
