Gwangju and Jeonnam 'Up to 36°C' Scorching Heat Intensifies... Most Areas Under 'Heatwave Warning'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] As heatwave warnings have been issued for most areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam, the scorching heat continues day after day.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on the 21st, heatwave warnings have been issued for Gwangju, Hwasun, Naju, Yeonggwang, Hampyeong, Suncheon, Damyang, Muan, Yeongam, Gwangyang, Jangseong, Gurye, and Gokseong, while heatwave advisories have been issued for Heuksando, Hongdo, Geomundo, Chodo, and areas excluding those under heatwave warnings.
Due to the influence of the North Pacific High, clear weather will continue for the time being, with daytime temperatures rising to around 33 degrees Celsius, maintaining the heatwave.
The highest daytime temperatures on this day are expected to be between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius; on the 22nd, the morning low will be 21 to 25 degrees Celsius with a daytime high of 32 to 36 degrees Celsius; and on the 23rd, the morning low will be 21 to 25 degrees Celsius with a daytime high of 31 to 36 degrees Celsius.
As the heatwave persists for an extended period, there is a possibility that heatwave warnings may be expanded or strengthened.
Heatwave warnings have been issued since May last year based on the apparent temperature, which considers both temperature and humidity. Even if the maximum temperature is below 33 degrees Celsius, a heatwave warning can be issued if humidity is high; conversely, if the maximum temperature is above 33 degrees Celsius but humidity is low, a heatwave warning may not be issued.
