[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Korea Startup Forum announced on the 20th the launch of the 'Telemedicine Industry Council' to innovate and stabilize the telemedicine market.
The council includes 13 companies operating telemedicine services, with Dr. Now and MD Square elected as co-chair companies. The council plans to focus on activities such as ▲telemedicine system exchange ▲improving telemedicine awareness ▲system reform ▲collaboration with the medical community.
The council stated that it was launched to make joint efforts for the innovation and stable settlement of the telemedicine market and to promote public safety through active communication with stakeholders in the medical community, including the Medical Association, Hospital Association, and Pharmaceutical Association.
Additionally, it analyzed that domestic telemedicine revealed hidden demand as it was temporarily permitted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The council said, "Domestic telemedicine, which was not institutionally allowed, was effectively piloted during the COVID-19 pandemic," adding, "Among the cumulative 2.26 million consultations, there were zero medical accidents, which had been a concern."
Jang Ji-ho, CEO of Dr. Now and co-chair of the council, said, "Although telemedicine was conducted under temporary permission, the concerns about medical accidents and concentration in large hospitals did not materialize," adding, "On the contrary, demand at the primary clinic level was absolutely high, and satisfaction among partner hospitals is also trending high."
Oh Soo-hwan, CEO of MD Square and co-chair, said, "Domestic telemedicine requires improvements in all areas including systems, technology, and regulations. We will find concrete cooperation and win-win solutions through active communication with the medical community," adding, "We will create ways for the telemedicine industry to develop through business exchanges among member companies."
