[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Students from the Department of Hotel Management, Tourism Division at Dongseo University won the grand prize at the Theme Travel Top 10 ‘Pumasi Time Travel Tourism Forum & Idea Contest’.
The 2021 Korea Theme Travel Top 10 Pumasi Time Travel Academic Forum, hosted by Jeonju City and organized by the Regional Tourism Culture Development Council, was recently held at the Wang-ui Jimil Convention Hall.
This project, led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Tourism Development Institute, and local governments, aims to foster representative tourist destinations in Korea and promote domestic travel.
The ‘Korea Theme Travel Top 10’ has been selected and operated focusing on 10 regions nationwide. Four areas including Jeonju, Gunsan, Gochang, and Buan are themed around their long history and thoughtful natural masterpieces, operating as the 7th region ‘Time Travel 101’ with the purpose of developing various tourism products and expanding services.
On the day, an idea contest was also held under the theme ‘Festival Content Development Utilizing Deokjin Park in Jeonju, With & Post-Corona Jeonju Tourism Revitalization Plan.’ About 70 teams from over 20 universities nationwide participated, presenting diverse and creative ideas.
Joyseul Cho and Chaehwi Hwang, members of the research group CHECK-D (Hotel Management Research Group) from the Department of Hotel Management, Tourism Division at Dongseo University, planned a festival titled ‘Obangsaek Festival: Finding the Sculptures in Deokjin Park.’ They incorporated five traditional colors into Deokjin Park and designed a festival where participants collect five lotus sculptures, winning the prestigious grand prize in the university student idea contest.
Joyseul Cho expressed joy, saying, “Overcoming the physical distance from Busan to Jeonju, we conducted a status survey and field visits to propose a theme travel development model centered on Jeonju Deokjin Park, which led to this good result.”
Professor Chuljin Lee of Dongseo University, the responsible professor of the Department of Hotel Management who received the ‘Excellent Advisor Award’ given to the grand prize-winning team, said, “I believe this result reflects the capabilities of our students honed through capstone design, PBL classes, and research group activities within the department. We will continue to focus on creative activities and discovering the students’ potential.”
