The disaster prevention group, consisting of 35 members from civilian, government, and military sectors, visited the affected farms in Songjeon Village, Haeje-myeon on the 9th to carry out recovery activities such as removing washed-away soil (5 tons), repairing houses, maintaining drainage channels, and installing geotextile fabric and tarps on dangerous slopes (20 meters).
The Regional Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group has been leading surveillance activities in disaster-prone areas and emergency restoration efforts during disasters. This volunteer activity is regarded as a model case of overcoming disasters through voluntary participation of local residents.
Additionally, the county is operating a heatwave response task force centered on the Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters and is making thorough efforts to prevent heatwave damage by installing 16 smart shade shelters (March to May), operating water spraying trucks (July to August, 20 km road section), and setting up 4 ice zones (July to August).
County Governor Kim San stated, “We will make every effort to ensure thorough preparation and recovery response for natural disasters so that residents, who are struggling due to COVID-19, will no longer feel inconvenience.”
Meanwhile, as the Korea Meteorological Administration has forecasted a severe heatwave this summer, the Regional Autonomous Disaster Prevention Group plans to conduct village patrol activities for heatwave-vulnerable groups, and the county plans to continue community-based heatwave prevention activities through support such as national subsidies.
